This lesson explains the bare minimum a person standing watch on a vessel should know about navigation rules.
At night in good visibility, vessel navigation lights make it easier to tell who should Stand On (hold a steady course and speed) and who should Give Way to (maneuver clear of) your own ship.
Anytime you are not sure if you or the other vessel is the Give Way vessel, call them on the radio to clarify each others intentions.
